Artemis Fowl: A fantastic series; must read.

May 26, 2009

Artemis Fowl is the series of novels written by Eoin Colfer (pronounced owen).

It’s an action novel mixed with elements of humour, hi-tech gadgetry and superb mind games – who is the one step ahead of the other.

The story revolves around Artemis Fowl II, a 12 year old genius, who discovers a lost race of fairies living underground. And the roller coaster ride that he’s thrown into thanks to his brilliant discovery with the Lower Elements Police (LEP).

Be warned: it isn’t one of those children’s novels that you have read till now. To quote Butler from the first book “…chip of an old block. But they are wrong: he’s a chip of a new block”.

The series features six novels so far: Artemis Fowl, Artemis Fowl and the Arctic Incident, Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code, Artemis Fowl and the Opal Deception, Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony and the latest Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox.

A breath taking series, that’s filled with edge of the seat action. It’s sure to blow you off with it’s superb action, combined with humour in the most unexpected places in the most unexpected forms. Yet, it’s the sheer ingenuity of the characters that drives the whole series.

One more thing that is good about this book is the fact that it has a brilliant language. The style of story telling and the choice of words to convey it form a perfect blend unheard of till now.

If you haven’t heard of this book till now, pick it up and do read it. It’s a wonderful book that’s bound to keep you on the edge; with it’s “who’s the smartest of them all” games.
